HABITUS · THE OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Character, cultivated.

Habitus.

AN EMBODIED WAY OF BEING

Character formed through practice. Knowledge carried through history.

Habitus names the depth that repeated practice makes instinctive. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of embodied disposition, the house uses it as a standard for taste, judgement and conduct.

For House of Ciru, it begins with a specific origin and continues through every relationship around the coffee. Selection, documentation, presentation and service should express the same cultivated character.

01

Origin is the product.

Place, elevation, soil, variety, processing and harvest are the substance of the coffee. A precise origin gives the conversation its starting point.

02

Depth over breadth.

The East African focus is a discipline. Runyua anchors the house; a considered regional scope allows the knowledge to deepen.

03

Character in the details.

A lot identity, a representative sample, a well-kept record and a clear offer are practical expressions of the same principle.
